Lots of drawing has been happening. The filigreed patterning of tea tree continues to fascinate me and have been making lots of studies in gouache and ink and watercolour I am very much looking forward to getting out the big canvases at home. Only a week left here on the island and it will be with regret we leave this stunning island and it's time out feel.
Cape Wickham today was splendid with an astounding view of the lighthouse and coast from the newly constructed links Golf Course. It was windy but sunny so was able to do some sketchbook drawing. Lots of preparation for my July workshop in Tathra From Sketchbook to finished painting, July 4/5

My residency on the magnificent King island is into the 4th week now and much drawing on site is happening and being translated into larger pastels and gouache paintings.
The workshops in mark making with ink from hand made implements of bone and local reeds and tussocks continues as do pastel and mixed media workshops held at various venues around the island. I am holding a workshop in my Tathra studio when I return inspired by my work here and the advantages of working on site as a basis for works finished in the studio. This will be on Sat/Sun 4/5 July at a cost of $200 for the 2 days with morning tea and lunch provided both days. It will be an experience to draw the beautiful Tathra coast and translate the sketchbook drawings into a finished pastel. The workshop is called From Sketchbook to Finished Pastel The images here are of completed pastel drawings 50x70cm worked on site in the sandunes at yellow Rock King island and sketchbook entries drawn with pen and watercolour wash on site. It has been a fascinating and rewarding experience living and working as artist in residence on king Island. The island is splendidly beautiful and offers new and interesting landscapes to explore at every turn. it is wild and remote and yet bears the scars of a history of shipwreck, settlement and deforestation.
The landscape and all the shards within in has been a source of material for making brushes and drawing implements for work in ink and washes. the workshops have been stimulating and interesting pushing the boundaries of mark making. |
